Accessible science is not a utopia: more a year of Noemica Journal

Abstract

This editorial reviews the trajectory of Noemica Journal throughout 2025 and outlines perspectives for 2026. It describes how the journal evolved from an internal repository of academic production into a peer-reviewed scientific journal, with a scope spanning Psychology, Business Administration, Education, Economics, and Social Sciences, organized around human processes, organizations and governance, and public policy, in dialogue with the UN 2030 Agenda. The text discusses the difficulties of scientific publishing marked by article processing charges (APC) and Noemica's commitment to a free model for both authors and readers, alongside the real costs involved in maintaining the journal, particularly DOI registration. It presents the reasons a voluntary-donation model was considered and ultimately rejected, the budgetary constraints of Brazilian federal public education, and the commitments to free English translation and accessibility. The editorial announces that, in 2026, reference researchers will be invited to join the editorial board, and reaffirms that submissions remain open year-round under a continuous-publication model. It closes with thanks to the authors, reviewers, and readers who were part of the journal in 2025.
